Faced with designing an annex to a 90-year old school building and programmatic space for an expanding student body, all within a tight site and with a limited budget, WGA addressed these challenges in several ways. The cornerstone was to create an approximate 45,000 square-foot addition, which increased school capacity by about 40%.

The annex melded seamlessly with the existing historic structure. Program space included a refurbished lunchroom and main office, as well as new classrooms. The exterior courtyard was improved with a rain garden, with permeable pavers, and the roof of the annex was partially covered with a green roof. Both of these landscape projects served to improve stormwater drainage at the site. The US Green Building Council awarded the project with a LEED Silver designation.
